Where to Buy a Sunday Paper on Monday
Do you know where to buy a Sunday paper on Monday? To keep your couponing game up to snuff, that’s an important detail.
Perhaps you’re traveling and haven’t had a chance to grab a paper. Maybe you’re new in town and have yet to subscribe. Or maybe Sunday was a busy day for you, or someone had already thrown the paper out before you grabbed the coupons.
There are many reasons why you may have missed the Sunday paper. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do about it. Read on to find out what!
Why Sunday Papers are Hard to Find after Sunday
Previous editions of newspapers are often returned early in the day. After all, most people have no need to read yesterday’s paper. Beyond that, a collection of old Sunday papers will only take up space.
With that said, if you’re a coupon clipper, the Sunday paper is important. Even if you didn’t miss the Sunday paper, you might be after the extra coupons in leftover copies.
Where to Buy Sunday Paper on Monday
It’s true that Sunday papers are hard to find the day after. But don’t lose hope! Here are the places where you can go to buy a Sunday paper on Monday.
Coffee Shops
This is your best bet when looking for newspapers after Sunday. For coffee lovers, this is also a convenient method. You can easily swing by a coffee shop for a paper and get a pick-me-up as a bonus.
Expect most of the larger chains to carry major national newspapers, like the Wall Street Journal. If you’re after the local papers (where the most coupons will be found), check out smaller, locally-owned shops.
If you’re a coffee shop regular, you may have some perks. Ask the barista or a manager if they can set aside a paper for you when they close on Sundays. Of course, this would depend mostly on store policies. You’d have more luck with this in smaller, local shops than with major chains.
Gas Stations/Convenience Stores
Perhaps you don’t have time to sit down for a cup of joe. If this is the case, try gas stations and convenience stores. It’s a great alternative if you’re wondering where to buy Sunday paper on Monday without the caffeine.
This is also a better alternative if you’re looking for local papers. Alongside local papers, you may find metropolitan newspapers. In a few places, national newspapers will also be available.
Speedway is a great place to pick up a Sunday paper on Monday - but make sure to get there early. Sunday newspapers are often picked up early in Speedway stores. If the previous paper hasn’t been snatched yet, it will still be displayed and sold. Speedway will sell these for the regular price, despite being yesterday’s paper.
Note that Speedway is open for 24 hours. So, if you’re an early riser, this is a great place to find the Sunday paper after Sunday. However, this also means that you won’t get your paper at a discount.
Dollar Stores
If you’re really on the lookout for savings, dollar stores are your best bet. Dollar stores sell daily newspapers for a dollar. Compare that to the normal price of Sunday papers, which are sometimes $4.00 at full price.
Most dollar stores only sell the paper of the day and not yesterday’s newspapers. However, a notable exception is Dollar General.
Dollar General will often sell the previous day’s paper until the afternoon. So, if arriving early isn’t possible, Dollar General is a great place to find yesterday’s paper. Dollar General stores open at 7 am or 8 am, depending on the branch.
Grocery Stores
Grocery stores are a great place to buy Sunday papers on Monday. There are two grocery stores where you can reliably get the Sunday paper the day after. Namely, these are HEB and Kroger.
At HEB, any unsold Sunday papers will still be sold on Monday. HEB stores open at 6 am or 7 am, depending on the branch.
Kroger also sells any unsold Sunday papers on Monday. Most importantly, you may be able to get them at a discount. However, these are at the discretion of store managers; it won’t hurt to ask. Kroger grocery stores often open at 6 am.
Newspaper Vending Boxes
While perhaps a bit antiquated, there are still some operating newspaper vending boxes - where you put in a coin and grab a copy of the paper.
Newspaper vending boxes are a great place to go to buy Sunday newspapers on Monday. This is because of how these boxes are refilled.
Most of the time, newer copies are simply stacked on top of the unsold papers from yesterday. If your box has any papers leftover from yesterday, simply go through the newer editions until you find yesterday’s paper.
However, vending boxes are a bit of a gamble. If there aren’t any Sunday papers in the box, there’s no way to get your money back. On the plus side, vending boxes are pretty cheap.
Circulation Office
If your local paper has a circulation office, you can try going to them for previous editions. This can be a reliable method - if your local office holds on to them. Most do, but contact them first, just in case.
Tips on Where to Buy a Sunday Paper on Monday
Here are some tips if you need to buy the Sunday paper on Monday.
- Go early: The earlier you are, the more likely you will be to find a copy of yesterday’s paper. This is especially true for places that are open 24/7.
- Remember opening times: Keep a copy of the store’s opening hours on your person at all times. After all, there’s no use being early if you don’t know what time a store will open.
- Contact your store first: You can contact a store before visiting and ask if they still have stocks of the Sunday paper available. Note that this will be faster in some stores than others.
- Remember to ask: If you can contact a store, you can always ask to have Sunday papers reserved for you. You’re more likely to be successful in smaller, locally-owned stores, however.
